We must remember that no other surface in a building takes more abuse than floors, regardless of the type of building, be it industrial or commercial. While a bare concrete floor can withstand tremendous weight and pressure, it is relatively porous and susceptibility to significant damage when left untreated or uncoated. If exposed to regular foot traffic or the demands of a commercial environment, concrete will readily absorb dirt, chemicals, oils, and other spillages. This often results in stains, cracks, and abrasions that can make the floor impossible to clean and unattractive in appearance. Hence all concrete floors need some sort of protection regardless of where they are located. Over the last few years, the protection of concrete floors has gone from essentially nothing to a fairly sophisticated process of some type of protective coating or surfacing. The main purpose is to provide protection to the slab from deterioration or contamination or to provide some added benefits such as aesthetics, wear, non-skid, chemical resistance, ease of maintenance, and different other properties.
Epoxy is a unique coating material that is composed of polymer resins and hardening chemicals such as epoxy glue that react together to create a chemical bond, which gives it a rigid plastic-like surface. Contrary to how it looks, epoxy coating is chemically distinct from regular paints. Moreover, these glossy floors are durable, stain-resistant, long-lasting, and can withstand heavy loads and pressure. It also doesn’t get damaged easily, making it an ideal flooring material for factories, warehouses, schools, hospitals, and garages. They are also resistant to degradation.
Generally, people tend to get confused between epoxy floors and epoxy coating. The main difference between these two is their depth. While epoxy floors comprise several layers of epoxy coating and have a depth of approximately two millimeters, epoxy coatings are thinner and mostly consist of two to three layers.
Polyurethane floors are practical and beautiful. In comparison to epoxy floors, they are much better suited for underfloor heating, a common technique in industries. In addition, this floor can be applied over most existing floors. These floors are many times firmer than wooden floors, laminate floors, or tiles, but certainly offer a great walking convenience due to the higher elasticity. Polyurethane floors are available in many different, beautiful colors.
Polyurethane (PU) flooring has some added advantages over epoxy flooring which are as follows.
